June 2021 Newsletter: It's getting hot in here

No seriously, it was over 100°F for a whole week! When you're outside this summer, make sure you're using sun protection. Sun protection is a key part of preventative skincare.

Sun protection can come in many forms - although, most of us usually just default to thinking of sunscreen. In addition to applying and re-applying SPF, you can:

  • Wear clothes designed for sun protection. These have a lab-tested UPF (Ultraviolet Protection Factor) rating and just like SPF, the higher the UPF rating, the more effective the protection.
  • If you can't wear UPF, opt for darker and denser fabrics which will protect your skin more than lighter ones. Manmade fibers like polyester and nylon offer more protection than natural fibers like cotton or linen.
  • Carry your hat and sunglasses with you, everywhere! We got used to carrying masks around, so why not bring your sun protection out with you, too?

If you forget or end up with a sunburn, treat it quickly! Cool your sunburn with a cold compress or cold water, moisturize frequently and remember to stay hydrated.
