October 2021 Newsletter: Holiday Shopping & Moisturizing Science

It's November, do you know what your holiday shopping plans are?

You've probably been getting a lot of "shop early for the holidays" reminders over the last few weeks. Whether it's big businesses warning about supply chain issues or small businesses talking about shipping delays, it seems like everyone is on edge about holiday shopping this year. At the risk of sounding like a broken record, I have to admit that I'm on edge, too!

But, as the Queen of Holiday Music™️ (aka Mariah Carey) decreed today: It's time.

If you're planning on ordering gifts for yourself, friends or family, please try and plan ahead! This year, my holiday shipping cutoff will be Friday, December 3rd. After this date, I will be shipping orders daily, but can't guarantee that your package will arrive in time.

If you have any questions or need help with holiday shopping and gift ideas, please feel free to reach out by replying to this email or DMing me on Instagram!

Also, I know the holidays, while fun and joyous for many, can be difficult for some of us. This will be my first holiday season without my dad, the Chuan of Chuan Skincare, so if this time of year is a difficult reminder of loss or trauma, please know you are not alone ❤️

The science behind your moisturizing routine

Has your skin been feeling extra dry lately? You're not alone - the change in seasons means there's less humidity in the air, and extra dry air from indoor heating can exacerbate dryness.

The best way to combat this is by using a complete moisturizing routine, tailored for your skin. This routine should include all 3 categories of moisturizer ingredients:

  • Humectants (like aloe vera or hyaluronic acid) help maintain and increase your skin's water content
  • Emollients (like our Facial Oils) fill in the gaps between your skin cells, to help make your skin feel smooth and soft
  • Occlusives (like our Lotion Bar) seal moisture in

The best time to apply these products is right after you shower or bathe, in order to prevent water loss and increase product absorption.

Now, this doesn't mean you need to have a 10-step moisturizing routine, but it does mean that you should be using 1-3 products together to meet your skin's hydration needs.
