Our natural skincare routine for dry skin

If you have dry skin, you know how frustrating it can be to deal with flaky, tight, stinging and itchy skin. Dry skin can be caused by a variety of factors, including genetics, environmental factors, and skincare habits & routines, and it can be especially problematic and frustrating during the colder months when we spend more time inside and the air is drier.

Fortunately, there are many natural skincare products and techniques that can help moisturize and nourish dry skin to improve its overall appearance. Here’s what we recommend as a natural skincare routine for dry skin:

Cleanse

Choose a gentle, non-drying cleanser that is free from sulfates and other harsh surfactants and chemicals. Look for ingredients such as glycerin, aloe vera, and honey, which can help to hydrate and nourish the skin - including our non-foaming, gentle Humble Powder Cleanser. Avoid using extremely hot water when cleansing, as this can strip the skin of its natural oils. Instead, opt for lukewarm water and be sure to rinse thoroughly.

Tone

After cleansing, use a toner to balance the pH of your skin and help to remove any remaining dirt and oil. Look for toners that contain hydrating ingredients like hyaluronic acid and avoid toners that contain alcohol, as this can be drying to the skin.

Treat

If you have specific skin concerns such as acne or dark spots, use a treatment product that is formulated to address those issues. For example, you can look for natural ingredients such as tea tree oil, witch hazel, or salicylic acid (found in willow bark and berries) for their acne fighting properties.

Moisturize

Moisturizing is key to managing dry skin, so be sure to use a moisturizer that is rich in hydrating ingredients. Look for products that contain ingredients such as shea butter, almond oil, or jojoba oil, which can help to lock in moisture and keep the skin soft and supple.

In addition to following this natural skincare routine, there are a few other things you can do to help manage dry skin:

  • Use a humidifier: Dry air can be especially harsh on dry skin, so using a humidifier can help to add moisture back into the air and improve the overall moisture content of your skin.
  • Drink plenty of water: Hydration is important for your overall health, including the health of your skin. Be sure to drink plenty of water throughout the day to help keep your skin hydrated and healthy.
  • Protect your skin from the elements: Exposure to wind, sun, and cold can all contribute to dry skin, so be sure to protect your skin by using a mineral sunscreen and wearing a scarf or hat in cold or windy conditions.
